Leaving the Pacific-side dock at 7:00 a.m., we will
undertake a live transit through Miraflores Locks, navigate across
1.5-mile-long Miraflores Lake located 54 feet above sea level, then
enter Pedro Miguel Locks and rise up to Gatun Lake (the world´s largest artificial lake, encompassing 262-square-miles, when the U.S. damned up the Chagres River and the Panama Canal was inaugurated in 1914).

Once on this 85 feet-above-sea-level lake, we will pass under the Centennial Bridge, and navigate through the winding Gaillard Cut, a strait that cuts through 9 miles of mountain terrain including the Continental Divide. This is where the dredging took place to create the Canal itself and where “the men were separated from the boys” during the construction of this amazing engineering feat. |
